Job Description:
- Affix identifying information onto a variety of materials and products, using engraving machines or equipment.
Duties and Tasks:
- 1) Observes action of cutting tool through microscope, and adjusts movement of stylus to ensure accurate reproduction.
- 2) Sharpens cutting tools on cutter grinder.
- 3) Examines engraving for quality of cut, burrs, rough spots, and irregular or incomplete engraving.
- 4) Verifies conformance to specifications, using micrometers and calipers.
- 5) Brushes acid over designated engraving to darken or highlight inscription.
- 6) Inserts cutting tool or bit into machine and secures with wrench.
- 7) Positions and secures work piece, such as nameplate, stamp, seal, badge, trophy, or bowling ball, in holding fixture, using measuring instruments.
- 8) Adjusts depth and size of cut by adjusting height of worktable or adjusting gauge on machine arms.
- 9) Sets stylus at beginning of pattern.
- 10) Selects and inserts letter or design template beneath stylus attached to machine cutting tool or router, according to work order.
- 11) Starts machine and guides stylus over template, causing cutting tool to simultaneously duplicate design or letters on workpiece.

- 5) Getting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
Abilities:
- 1) Arm-Hand Steadiness — The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
- 2) Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
- 3) Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- 4) Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- 5) Visualization — The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
Knowledge
- Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
