Job Definition:
- Painters and related workers prepare surfaces of buildings and other structures for painting, apply protective and decorative coats of paint or similar materials, or cover interior walls and ceilings of buildings with wallpaper or other finishes.
Job Description:
- Paint, coat, or decorate articles, such as furniture, glass, plateware, pottery, jewelry, cakes, toys, books, or leather.
Duties and Tasks:
- 1) Apply coatings, such as paint, ink, or lacquer, to protect or decorate workpiece surfaces, using spray guns, pens, or brushes.
- 2) Examine finished surfaces of workpieces to verify conformance to specifications; then retouch any defective areas.
- 3) Immerse workpieces into coating materials for specified times.
- 4) Read job orders and inspect workpieces to determine work procedures and materials required.
- 5) Rinse, drain, or wipe coated workpieces to remove excess coating material or to facilitate setting of finish coats on workpieces.
- 6) Select and mix ingredients to prepare coating substances according to specifications, using paddles or mechanical mixers.
- 7) Clean and maintain tools and equipment, using solvents, brushes, and rags.
- 8) Clean surfaces of workpieces in preparation for coating, using cleaning fluids, solvents, brushes, scrapers, steam, sandpaper, or cloth.
- 9) Conceal blemishes in workpieces, such as nicks and dents, using fillers such as putty.
- 10) Cut out sections in surfaces of materials to be inlaid with decorative pieces, using patterns and knives or scissors.
- 11) Melt or heat coating materials to specified temperatures.

- 5) Arm-Hand Steadiness — The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

- Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
